KWARA GOVT, POLICE COLLABORATE ON IMBIBING GOOD HYGIENE*

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its readiness to strengthen the existing cordial relationship with the Police Force with a view to imbibing the art of good hygiene and adhering to environmental laws for the benefits of the citizenry. The Commissioner,  Ministry of Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh stated this during a courtesy visit to the  Kwara Police Command Headquarters, Ilorin. While appreciating the efforts of the Command in enforcing law and order, Hon. Buraimoh sought for more support for the Ministry to keep the environment clean and encourage practices that promote and preserve health. She explained that the mutual cooperation with the Security Outfits and the development Partners would guarantee effective service delivery of the Ministry. MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL EXERCISE - 200 ARRESTED

Following the violation of the Sanitation Law, the Kwara State Government has effected the arrest of over 200 people for immediate prosecution. The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, stated this today during the monitoring of the monthly exercise in Ilorin metropolis. The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Environment, Mr Towoju Gabriel, said that the tempo of prosecution of  environmental law offenders will not be stop  until the people are ready to comply with the rules. According to her "this monthly sanitation exercise is very peculiar and different, all hands are on deck to make sure there is high compliance. People are natural law breakers, so we handle them the way they wanted. We  have  the mobile court and security agencies on ground for absolute compliance," she said. International Day of Forests: KWSG Harps On The Importance of Tree Planting*

The Kwara State Government has again stressed the importance of tree planting in safeguarding our environment against the adverse effects of climate change. The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh disclosed this today at the  commemoration of this year's International Day of Forests, held at Sity Inn Hotel, Ilorin. The event, with the theme, "Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption", was jointly organized by the Kwara State Stakeholders Forest Dialogue and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).  The aim of the celebration is to drum-up support for the long-term conservation and restoration of the degraded forest landscape and promote long-term collaboration towards  a sustainable forest management in the state.  Hon. The Kwara State Government has restated its commitment towards ensuring that the people of the state embrace personal hygiene in their surroundings, in order to have disease-free  environment. The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh stated this today during a radio interactive programme at Sobi fm station in Ilorin. KWSG warns Waste Contractors against poor environmental performance.

The Kwara State Government has warned the waste contractors in the state to operate responsibly or face sanctions.   The Commissioner for Environment, Hon Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh gave the warning today during an inspection and monitoring tour to check the duties and activities of the waste contractors in the Ilorin metropolis. She said that government had found out that the lackadaisical attitude of the evacuators is becoming unbearable hence needs proper attention for the enforcement in ensuring that the state is free from accumulated waste. COURT CONVICTS ENVIRONMENTAL LAW DEFAULTER

The Kwara State Government has prosecuted an environmental defaulter, one Mr. Jimoh Atolagbe of Number 33, Ile Olopin, Opomalu, Ilorin, for contravening  the law on environmental sanitation. Atolagbe contravened Section 18 (1) A of the  Public Health and Environmental Sanitation Law N0.5 of 2004 section 4 and 5 (4).  He was caught in the act by the state Commissioner for Environment, Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh and her team, while dumping the refuse of decayed peels of different fruits indiscriminately during the week, along the major road side of Harmony Estate road Ilorin, thereby constituting nuisance as well as veritable source of germs.  The Commissioner, in company of the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Pastor Adeniran Adebara and the Director of Environment, Mr Towoju Gabriel, while on monitoring and inspection exercise round  the Ilorin metropolis sighting the nuisance frowned at the act despite steps taken to curb such act in the sta...

Stop Sabotaging Government's Environmental Sanitation Efforts

The Kwara State Government has warned the people of the state to stop sabotaging its efforts in  waste management and disposal strategies. The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, gave this warning while on inspection tour in the Ilorin metropolis to check the level of compliance with  proper refuse disposal procedures. Buraimoh, who frowned at indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state capital, wondered why there was low compliance with proper waste disposal procedures  said "despite government's efforts in  placing  rorobins at strategic places to prevent illegal disposals",adding that  people still dump refuse at road sides and other  inapproptiate places" Buraimoh insisted that "this act must stop. COMMISSIONER CHARGES KWARANS TO MAINTAIN HYGIENIC CULTURE

The people of Kwara State have been charged to maintain hygienic culture, in order to  avert the outbreak of epidemics. The state Commissioner for Environment, Hon Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh gave the charge during the week at Koro Afoju, Gambari, Ilorin, when she paid a sensitization visit to the beggars at the community. The Commissioner, who stressed  that the importance of having a clean and conducive environment was  geared towards averting  the spread of diseases, also urged them to key into the monthly sanitation exercise, as scheduled by the state government. According to her, " government is greatly concerned about the welfare of the people, thereby making sure the state is kept clean and tidy. MOE, KWEPA Synergy Vital For Safe Environment- Buraimoh

 The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh has  emphasized the need for synergy between the  State Environmental Protection Agency, (KWEPA) and the ministry for smooth operation in achieving their statutory responsibilities of clean and safe environment in the state. Buraimoh said this during a Familiarization Visit to the agency which is under the Ministry. She further stated that the agency has to be consistent in tabling their needs to the ministry as this will ensure urgent attention needed to be given. The Commissioner lauded the  administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for its simplicity  and proactive measures in addressing issues that are of importance, especially when it relates to the welfare of the citizens.
