Environmental Sustainability : Our Mandate - KWSG

The Kwara State Government has disclosed that it will not relent its efforts in the provision of efficient waste management system, fostering private participation in  environmental sustainability and promotion of balanced and stable ecosystem in the state. The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Remilekun Banigbe gave this indication today in her keynote address, during the Kwara Green Hangout Programmme organized by an NGO, Eleven Eleven Twelve Foundation (EETF), Ilorin. The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Forestry, Alhaji Babatunde Mahmud, said environmental issues have taken heavy tolls on human lives. May 13, 2022 The Hon Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Oluwatobi Banigbe in company of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Dupe Adekeye and some of the management staff today in an inspection tour to the permanent dumpsite at Sokoto Ayekale to ascertain the level of work done at the  site. This is in furtherance of the need for expansion of the path ways to the inner cubits for adequate waste disposal. Banigbe noted that there is need for division of the site into compartment using a barricade to avoid littering of the disposed waste by scavengers.

* Kwara State Government has said it will not accept further sabotage of its efforts to ensure a cleaner environment in the state, a warning made following the arrest of a domestic aide to a top opposition figure who was caught dumping huge refuse by the roadside in Ilorin. The said aide, Taofeeq Ambali, was accosted at Flower Garden area of Ilorin on Thursday morning as he offloaded the truckload of refuse by the roadside purportedly at the behest of a former ambassador and member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party. “We are thoroughly disgusted at this obvious attempt to frustrate government’s efforts to make the environment clean. It is unthinkable to find opposition figures deliberately littering the streets with garbage and then turning around to make videos of the same scenes and publishing them in their local newspapers for political capital,” according to a statement by the Commissioner for Communications Hon.
