Environmental Law Offenders Risk Penalties- KWSG
The Kwara State Government has again cautioned kwarans to desist from sabotaging the government's effort in making sure of adequate waste management and creating hygienic environment for citizenry.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Hon Remilekun Banigbe gave this warning today during an inspection tour to Ilorin metropolis to ascertain the level of the compliance of the people towards adequate waste disposal.
Banigbe expressed her displeasure over the alarming rate at which some people still persist in indiscriminate dumping on road medians and other unauthorized places and not making use of the rorobins placed for usage.
She said the effort of the government is been sabotaged with this act, " it is so disheartening to see people still dumping on the road medians despite the unceasing efforts of the government in making sure that the environment is conducive for everyone
The bigger rorobins are there for waste disposal and not for display, waste should be dumped in the bins and not on the road medians" she said.
The commissioner stressed further that people should be patient enough to dump their waste into the waste compactors plying their route rather than allowing the waste constitute nuisance on the streets.
"It is not the duty of the government to come into your house and pack your waste, do your part, use bins in evacuating your waste properly, there is the social waste contractors and commercial waste contractors at your services"
Banigbe noted that with the extensive enlightenment and sensitization programmes being administered to kwarans to comply with environmental laws, other measures are now put in place as the mobile court is now set up at strategic places to penalize any offender who dire violates the environmental law in the state.
In same vein, the Commissioner in company of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Dupe Adekeye and the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Pastor Adeniran Adebara also visited the mobile court set up at Odota Axis where some of the environmental culprit were penalized for violating the environmental laws of dumping indiscriminately in an unauthorized place in the area.
Banigbe said this step will charge the people to the full responsibilities of adhering to the environmental law stated in the Environmental Sanitation law in the state.
