Clean Environment: Kwara Commissioner Sensitizes Traders.
The newly-deployed Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Remilekun Oluwatobi Banigbe, toured some parts of the Ilorin metropolis to call the attention of the public in adequate waste management so as to intensify the effort of making sure the state is free of dirt to avert epidemics.
Banigbe gave the indication of the need for the market leaders to have dialogue with the traders to create a space where the new rorobins will be placed in the market.
She stressed the need to maintain road setbacks in all market places to avoid the loss of lives and properties and traffic hold-ups, noting that the rorobins placed at strategic places in market areas should be maintained adequately to avert any damage.
The commissioner, while sensitizing the people, said it for the betterment of the populace, as this will enlighten the people on adequate waste management scheme, adding that the next visit to the market will be based on enforcing the environmental laws where environmental violators will be arrested and prosecuted.
She promised a prompt evacuation of refuse anytime the rorobins are filled up to curb any nuisance it may constitute.
Banigbe, in company of the Deputy Director and health officers, also monitored the activities of the waste contractors to check the effectiveness of their duties in packing the refuse generated in the metropolis.
Banigbe stated that the monthly sanitation which will hold this Saturday will not be very strict and assured that people can go about their normal activities due to the preparation towards the coming Sallah celebration while making sure their surroundings are kept clean.
