MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL EXERCISE - 200 ARRESTED


Following the violation of the Sanitation Law, the Kwara State Government has effected the arrest of over 200 people for immediate prosecution.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, stated this today during the monitoring of the monthly exercise in Ilorin metropolis.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Environment, Mr Towoju Gabriel, said that the tempo of prosecution of  environmental law offenders will not be stop  until the people are ready to comply with the rules.

According to her "this monthly sanitation exercise is very peculiar and different, all hands are on deck to make sure there is high compliance.

People are natural law breakers, so we handle them the way they wanted. We  have  the mobile court and security agencies on ground for absolute compliance," she said.

Buraimoh stressed that plans are on to extend the act of compliance to other areas in the state.

She, however, commended the National Union of Road Transportation Workers (NURTW), Road Transportation Employees Association of Nigeria cooperation in maintaining strict compliance during the exercise, urging motorcyclists to follow suit or face the wrath of the law.

Buraimoh urged kwarans to complement the efforts of Gov. AbdulRahaman Abdurazaq in ensuring hygiene and neat environment for the people of the state.

The commissioner also admonished the people to continue to maintain the tempo of cleanliness in their environs, desist from illegal dumping and avoid dumping waste in drainages to avoid flooding as the rainy days are fast approaching. 

The Chairman, Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Taskforce, Air Vice Marshal, Ishaq Balogun, (rtd) was also part of the monitoring team.
