MOE, KWEPA Synergy Vital For Safe Environment- Buraimoh
The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh has emphasized the need for synergy between the State Environmental Protection Agency, (KWEPA) and the ministry for smooth operation in achieving their statutory responsibilities of clean and safe environment in the state.
Buraimoh said this during a Familiarization Visit to the agency which is under the Ministry.
She further stated that the agency has to be consistent in tabling their needs to the ministry as this will ensure urgent attention needed to be given.
The Commissioner lauded the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for its simplicity and proactive measures in addressing issues that are of importance, especially when it relates to the welfare of the citizens.
Buraimoh, in response to the outlay of challenges facing KWEPA, promised to try her bit in ensuring that all the stated needs are addressed.
Earlier in his welcome address, the General Manager, KWEPA, Alhaji Sa'ad Ayuba Dan-Musa appreciated the commissioner and her team for the visit to the agency.
He highlighted some of the responsibilities
of the agency which include: fumigating residential and business premises, inspection of regulated premises, waste management among others.
While relating some of the challenges faced by the agency, Dan- Musa stressed the need for the complete rehabilitation of its scientific laboratory which is not functioning as majority of the equipment there now obsolete.
Dan-Musa explained that fixing the laboratory has economic values to offer the state as it is capable of increasing the revenue generated by the state and is also capable of creating more job opportunities.
He further briefed the commissioner that there was the need for the repair of the agency's operational vehicles as most of them are grounded.
He implored the commissioner to make use of her good office in ensuring that the laboratory is reconstructed and new technological equipments purchased to complement the building.
The Commissioner had in her team the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pastor Abraham Kola Ojo; Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Pastor Adeniran Adebara; the Director of Environment, Mr Towoju Gabriel; Director, Forestry, Alhaji Babatunde Idris Mahmud.
