DESIST FROM INDISCRIMINATE DUMPING- KWSG
The Kwara State Government has appealed to the people of the state to desist from dumping wastes indiscriminately and maintain environmental cleanliness to promote a healthy livelihood.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh made this appeal during an inspection tour round in Ilorin metropolis.
The Commissioner who embarked on the tour in company of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pastor Abraham Kola Ojo, the Director of Environment, Mr Towoju Gabriel and health officers explained that the exercise became imperative in order to enlighten the public about health hazards of indiscriminate waste disposal.
According to her "It is important to keep the environment clean and tidy and ensure that everyone is healthy; having a conducive environment is for the benefit of everyone. An untidy environment is a threat to everyone's wellbeing with dire consequences
I am imploying the good people of Kwara to comply with the government directives in keep their surroundings clean and tidy to avoid environmental hazards".
Buraimoh sought for a synergy with market leaders to ensure adequate supervision, monitoring and prompt evacuation of wastes from the market.
During the tour, the Commissioner noted there were some strategic points in need of rorobin placements for adequate waste disposals.
Responding, the Babaloja of Oja Oba market, Alhaji Saheed Hassan Agaka appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq's administration for its proactive measures in curbing the menace of health hazards in the state.
He assured the commissioner of maximum cooperation with the government's directives on waste disposal to enhance healthy living.
Alhaji Agaka advised government on the need for adequate monitoring of wastes disposal by security operatives, adding that a compactor should be in the market for proper disposal and prompt waste s evacuation.
Places toured by the Commissioner and her entourage include: Tanke- University Road, Judges Quarter's, Balogun Fulani Junction, Gerin Alimi, Metropolitan Square, Offa Garage among others.
